Have been sitting on this one for a little while now. You know when you have one of those sketches that you repeat over and over again and finally one day you are like, alright, lets do this...well this is that one for me. I can't tell you how many times and how many different variations of this I have drawn out in my Field Notes. So tonight I wanted to sit down and put this one to rest and vectorize this bad boy. Don't know what I will use it for, maybe a deck or board base design, something. I'll figure it out, just can't let this one go. Enjoy.
Bear
I am really just finding that the Board Pusher's contest has been a good outlet to come up with cool ideas and have somewhat of a creative brief put in front of me. Even though this is a contest, it still gives me an opportunity to flex the creative mind to think as if this was my client and I was designing a board for them. This one is called Bear! Went with the natural board background, to give it some nice texture. Outdoorsy. Keeping those fingers crossed as I hit submit. Later.
Interference
A new mark I am developing for the board line. This one is called Interference. Working hard on this Sunday afternoon, keeping busy here in the studio. Never a dull moment.
Junkin'
Here a little find from when I was out and about at an auction. Always on the look out for little treasures in all sorts of places, never know what you'll find.
Eames Tech
Found out that I took a second place with my entry into the Eames Chair Create Now Contest. I was blown away to see the email. That just goes to show me, that if you create, good things can happen, but also the main thing here is create! Not for the prize, but for the drive. I just wanted to create something and having that drive, helped me put something out there and looked what happened. I am pumped about this. Thanks to everyone that viewed my entry, for views helped out the voting/qualifying process. That's community at it's finest! Thanks! GO CREATE!
Line of the Day
Haven't thrown a Line of the Day up for a while, so I thought I would crank one out. Here is one from the Field Notes archives. Went through a few of the old Notes and opened up to a sketch of a caliper. Industrial sketch, thick lines, simple. Enjoy!
Meadowlark Music Festival
Going down the remember when path for a little bit. Here is a poster that I designed for a music festival that is held here in Lincoln and has everything to do with the arts. Always a good time and really puts the spotlight on the arts in the community. The Medowlark is the state bird of Nebraska, so I wanted to included that little guy in the poster along with incorporating music some how. So here is what I came up with. A little throw back Thursday for y'all. Still working hard here in the studio, cranking out work! Stay strong and keep making!
Dutch Harbor Clothing Co.
I have always wanted to design and create a clothing label. I just think about all the cool different areas in which you can design the logo, label and advertising and see it all come together. So one night I was watching an episode of Deadliest Catch and heard the name Dutch Harbor. That just sounded like a great name for a clothing line. I went to work and sketched out some ideas. I used the outline of a typical ship that sets off from that harbor. I will be developing more of the pieces, but this is a first go at it and trying to figure out what direction I want to take on the other pieces. Keep making!
Moose Snowboards
I started working up the new series of boards for Moose. I needed to get started on the line and start throwing down some elements. So this is the first go at concepts for the 2013-14 line. This is something that I hope can start to take off and be it's own thing. I have Moose patches for sale, so if you want to help support the journey, click the link below and that get's you to the site, under the Merch tab.
50 Years of Bond
I am a huge fan of the Bond films, so I wanted to come up with a word mark for the 50 Year Anniversary of the films. I took a look at the word BOND and saw the number 50 in the first two letters. I separated them out and turned them gold. After that I noticed that number 5 had a good continuation for the pistol. Boom, here it is. 007 style!
Go Diving
Another contest, and a new idea for the boys out at Board Pusher. This time the theme is "Pool Party". Wanted to do a simple, but yet effective design, so I thought about the NO DIVING sign that is posted at most pools. Then add a little flare to the icon and graffiti over the letter N to say GO DIVING. Like I have said before, enter contest's to keep sharp and have fun. No for the prize, but for the drive.
Color Exploration
When starting new projects, I throw together a variety of swatches, just to see how they will work together. Having a new project coming up I wanted to see how this color palette was going to work and with overlays. Working on Sunday, yep, in full gear!
Seven of Clubs
Here is a logo that I have been meaning to get to and revamp. This was a little side project that was developed after I found a seven of clubs playing card on the ground. Totally random, I thought, why not make a production company out of it. So Seven of Clubs Productions was born. Just a fun little side project for me, but you know what it keeps me hungry. Even though the client is me, it's still a chance to create and have fun.
Pixel Pushers Union
If you push them pixels for a living, this is the right patch for you. Let's unionize and show everyone what we do and be damn proud to do it! To all of my Design friends, hit me up and I will send you a patch in the mail. Help me spread the word. Tell your friends that shovel pixels as well, and I can set them up with one as well.
Photo of the Day
It has been a while since I posted a Photo of the Day, so guess what, I am posting one. Trying out the new VSCOcam app on the phone. Thought I would try it on this photo of the barn at sunset, down on the farm, at the range. I really like the new interface and how it works. Enjoy!
Take 'Em Down
I entered a couple of designs into a deck design contest with BoardPushers, out of Denver, Colorado. Local boys. The theme was space invaders, so I thought it would be fitting to do a hark back to the classic game. I did up a couple more ideas with color and one with a natural board background. Keeping my fingers crossed, but what the heck, it's not about winning! It's about entering, having fun and creating something cool. I will post a link for you to order the design if you want, after the contest is over.
THE CROSSOVER
I had an idea for a snowboard binding a while back and sketched it out on in my Field Notes bundle, hoping to one day vectorize this bad boy and give it some life. So here it is, a first go at it. I call it the Crossover. Using the Union Binding Company as my platform of choice.
UPDATED WORK
I updated the work page, did a little house cleaning and added some new stuff. It has been a while, so I thought I would do a little refresh of some new vectors. Go check it out, and enjoy.
Through These Gates
I am really pumped about being apart of this film, in a way that I can be apart of it. I am a Husker fan, and have been my whole life, in which I can remember. So to see a film documenting that fan base, I was like this is so cool.
I emailed Ryan, the director and producer of the film, he hit me back and so let the party began. I sent him some different ideas and he was diggin' the one you see above. He has done an epic job on this thus far, and I can't wait to see what he has all put together for the finish product.

I am really pumped about this one and hope that this gets a TON of love from Husker fans all over the state and the country. GO BIG RED!
Nebraska Fan Base
Burning up the old Mac this weekend. Got a ton of things going on and no rest until we get them all done. Power through it. Found this guy in the archives today. Did this a while back for a friend. She ran the stairs at the John Hancock building and so I made up some shirts for her, in support. Nebraska fan base was created. Alright, back at it.
